Shape of the Sound Project
This project is FIZA's primary activity. The "Shape of the Sound" (SOTS) project is a biannual international art project which involves the on-site creation and display of interactive art pieces. The project is essentially an open studio that is viewed by the public as the artwork is created. Unique aspects of the project involve the interaction with people who usually do not have access to creative activities, thereby overcoming differences of culture, language, race and physical conditions, and experiencing the thrill of not knowing the exact outcome of an open studio.
The first SOTS project was presented in Japan in the summer of 1999 (before FIZA's incorporation) by Kaori Takami who first organized FIZA in 1998 and is currently the President of FIZA) and other various artists and supporters. The second SOTS project was presented in Japan during the summer of 2001 (late July through early August) and again within the United States in Missouri in early May, 2002 which was organized by Marie Oberkirsch.
